It's not the patriarchy who is hurting women.
It's us.

There are countless times as a woman I've been
Looked down upon,
Not allowed in the men clubs,
Been patronized, looked over, invisible, sushed.
Times I've ignored snide comments about my boobs or butt,
Times I've cried alone or left meetings boiling inside,
Because of the way I'm treated as a woman.

But the most painful hurts
Have been from women,
Even "well-intentioned" women.

I received a comment from someone in my community that said because I
Go through depression,
Have felt like my life didn't have purpose,
Went through the dark night of my soul when I lost Grandma,
Have had regrets,
That during this time I've been putting on a façade,
That she didn't trust me,
And I should stop making offers until I come from the "real" me.

Ouch.

Here's why I'm sharing this.
It's not because I need you to message me back and tell me she was mean, or
Because I need your advice on how to respond or
Because I need to explain myself to anyone.

I'm sharing this because there is 1 belief that keeps women from doing our sacred work 👇🏽

Believing we need to have it all together first.

I see my friends and clients hold back from coming out, doing their work, creating what they want because they think they need to somehow be MORE.
More together.
More experienced.
More happy.
More beautiful.
More organized.
More zen.

That's bullshit.
You don't.

You can be depressed,
A "bad" mom,
Unhealthy,
Lonely,
Shy,
A beginner,
Have regrets,
Panic attacks,
A suicidal teenager,
Not know where to start,
Not have experience, or a degree,
Be on food stamps,
150 lbs heavier than you want to be,
Going through cancer,
Be divorcing your partner,
Not have "it" all together,
And STILL do your sacred work,
Still help people.
Now.

If you're judging yourself as not good enough, ready enough, healed enough, you're missing the point.

No one has it together.

As Shiloh Sophia told me once, You just need to be healed enough, to help others.
That's it.
Enough.
And you're the one deciding if you're enough.

There was a point I just decided to give up doing it on my own.

For most of my life I’ve liked being seen as a powerful, independent woman.

And in that past that meant taking care of IT myself.

It got done faster that way.
It got done the right way.
I didn’t have to deal with drama.
It just felt easier.

Until it didn’t.

Until I became a mother,
Until I wanted to start a business,
Until I started feeling overwhelmed and exhausted
And didn’t know how to get everything done.

From the outside, we may look powerful and put together doing it on our own,
But on the inside, it doesn’t feel that way.

It feels lonely.
And it’s not sustainable.

Running painting retreats for 250+ women,
Publishing a bestselling novel,
Raising teenage boys,
Starting a business,
Growing a business to multiple 6 figures,
Selling my artwork around the world.

I did NONE of it on my own.

We are better together.

Better moms,
Better friends,
Better leaders,
Better artists,
Better healers,
Better partners.
Better Together.
